As much as I am adjusting to all the new changes, I have one major complaint. I want the old search feature back. How am I supposed to find something by title without it? Is anything being done about it? Is it going to be added again once the revamp is totally complete? If not, this is a major bummer and I hope that you decide to include it to make things easier for your dedicated readers

Actually, if you go into the subdomain you wish to search, the old Search feature is still there, under Member Tools, and it works just like it always has.

Aside from needing to re-learn how to post, I've found it difficult to post; I'm having trouble entering anything in the text field. Any changes made are slow/sluggish to occur and after ten minutes of struggling with it, I was taken back to the page where I'd already filled in the title, ect again. I'm going to wait before I post anything here, at least until the bugs are worked out.

Sorry; I'm not one for big changes....

The rich text editor has been in place for a year. You probably need to update your browser, your java, or both.

Being returned to the story add page tells me that you entered the recaptcha code incorrectly.

The rich text worked like it should before the code push, but now any text I try to delete or add there's a lag time of several seconds. I also tend to prefer html because I have fewer problems with it.

As to being returned to the add story page, I had already made it through past the point where I entered the recaptcha and was on the text field page trying to enter text when it unexpectedly jumped back. It may have been a hardward malfunction on my part, though, and the issue with entering text might have been an issue that occured yesterday. I'll wait a few days and try again.

Html uploads were disabled for security purposes. Why on earth direct html injection was allowed in to the database, I have no idea. Aside from that, the rte for text insert, when it adds data, the data inserted as compared to an html or even a text insert is roughly no bigger than 20k, even with the large chapters. Whereas a large chapter with html as the insert was running upwards of 2MB.

Without knowing what OS, what your hardware, and a few other things, or even what exactly you were doing BESIDES editing/adding to a story, I can't duplicate the issue.

I have a Mac, OS X Snow Leopard, and it's only recently (VERY recently) I discovered when I use the mouse that came with the computer (Magic Mouse) that if you touch it the wrong way, it wipes out whatever you were entering on a text field and takes you back to the previous page--my apologies, I didn't realize that it was my hardware that was causing the problem, and not AFF. As to the other issue, duely noted! I'll try to post later today (using a different mouse), and see if I have any further problems. Thanks for your help!

Okay, I'm so flustered with the code changes I even got my username wrong when I posted to this forum earlier.

While I figured out some of the problems with posting, and did manage to post, I found the rich text unable to center text, and was not able to return to the text field to edit once I hit the "preview" button (did we have that ability before? I don't post often enough to remember anymore) and when I tried to go in and look at the post, I'm required to fill in the name/age consent form? When I'm already logged in? I'm sure I never had to do that before.

And I also agree with Annonomouse: can you guarentee our privacy, which is now a very important factor with SOPA still waiting in the wings?

Seriously, I'm not trying to be a sourpuss, but neither am I a computer programmer. It was much easier to post and maintain my fics before the code push. I'll keep my fingers crossed that these problems will go away with time.

The RTE has been a little flukey about centering since it was first installed about a year ago. I write in Open Office and use either Firefox or Chrome as my browser, and I generally wind up posting and then editing my chapter to correct the centering. The RTE's centering works brilliantly on editing, I find. Even before the new code rollout, you were unable to return to the text field once you selected "preview" so that hasn't changed, actually.

The age/consent thing happens because the cookies for a subdomain now expire after 30 days. When you access the subdomain, you simply need to acknowledge that you are over 18. It's a click, and you shouldn't need to fill anything in. As staff, I'm in and out of every subdomain, and I do need to renew my cookies periodically by clicking as well.

I think the other age verification is the one mentioned. Although this is how the cookies work. At the BASE entry point per subdomain is a click cookie, that's set to expire every 30 days, so you need to reclick it once a month. When going in to any chapter for the first time, after clearing cookies, you hit the age verification form, which is ALSO a cookie setter. That one has an expiration of I think 90 or 180 days, don't honestly remember. Unfortunately, at this stage of code update we can't disable it outright. However, it will go the way of the dodo once the storyboard part of the coding is in place.

As to privacy, now when one enters birthday and name information, it's simply stored in the database. It's not displayed AT ALL.

And as for privacy - You can better believe that unless it was for some serious reason (Like a child molester or something like that) I would go to the moon and back to protect our privacy. I would never roll over and give out member information with out a fight for some dumb shit.

Admins, unfortunately, if you got a subpeona to release the information, you could end up facing jail time yourself if you didn't since you would have no (legal) reason to keep the member list confidential. What are you using the information for anyway?

We use member information to contact them if needed. If you're referring to birthday, we do our best to verify age of everyone who registers, as the site is restricted in use to users age 18 and up. As stated before, real name, email and birthday information are hidden.by default. The users often add the email and whatnot to their profiles anyway.

Depends on the reason and the lawyer - Cable companies have successfully overcome subpenas to release member information to media companies :)

With this new form of author panel, I can't see review count, hits and rating at a glance anymore. Or at all. Only for authors with the old panel or on stories when browsing categories.

In the next update, could this possible be returned? It's how I judge whether or not to read a fic, much more than the actual summary. :)

@ThroneofSouls:

As the next phases of the new code are rolled out, some features will return. I'm not entirely sure that the author panels will go back to showing review counts and hits. I do know that ratings may be replaced with a recommendation feature instead, since ratings has proved to be a problem in the past when authors were ratings-bombed for whatever reason.

We're always happy to hear feedback from our authors and readers, and we appreciate your taking the time to let us know what you think. :)

I love the new look.  But a downside i see is when looking up an author's stories HP for example.  we see the summary but we no longer see the Pairing it is under.  Would it be possible to put that in at a later upgrade?

I'm making a guess here, but I think once the unlimited subcats are in place, that yes, you'll see that again.
